Figured I’d post this to give a little update. For one of my classes I’m illustrating each chapter of The Lord of the Flies and this is my piece to accompany chapter one - I’ll be adding text a little later as per a requirement of the assignment. I’ll be uploading the rest when they’re all finished and I planned on waiting but I figured a sneak peek can’t hurt.
In-class painting assignment. We had to do an illustration based on the current events happening in Ukraine within the class period so we had to work pretty quick. We also had to incorporate using a found material in the process so I ended up doing all the inking with a stick I found near my apartment haha.My laptop colors are so screwed up, I had to rework this a lot when I got home to my desktop but yeah I wanted to go for something kind of subtle and just have fun with it.
Little doodle from my morning class. I just want to go lay in a place like this so bad.
Sort of related; I had a dream a few nights ago that I had died and after death you had to ride this elevator and complete ten challenges. Like there were 20 buttons in the elevator - 10 for the floors and then another 10 for variations like “7a, 7b, etc.”. It was super bizarre. There was an older woman and her child who got on the elevator too and there was just this atmosphere that we both understood we were going to have these challenges ahead of us. One of the stops for me was a field like this and a train came through that I had to get on and I had to help all these people on the train from being attacked by various animals and it was incredibly bizarre. Sorry for the tangent.
Secondary piece for that homework assignment I posted yesterday. This one is a bit more simple which I’m not used to doing.
Hoping I can do some work this weekend on my backlog and maybe get a head start on paintings for next week.
This was an assignment for a class. We had to choose a slang term and illustrate it and I chose “wired” but yeah, it was fun - hopefully tomorrow it goes over well, we’ll see.
At the critique last week I had a lot to change and one of the main points was that I used a really dull pallet before so I tried to pump it up here.
I can’t wait to have free time this weekend to sleep again.
I painted this thing last night based on where I grew up and also based on alien abduction because I’ve been having a lot of dreams about that lately sort of.
Here is a little piece I colored in between classes to keep me awake. I read this short story called “Bloodchild” by Octavia Butler for a class and it really inspired me - this is just loosely inspired by it but I want to do an actual illustration from the book soon as well cause I loved it a lot.
Hi there everyone! Sorry there haven’t been many updates as of late. I’ve been really, really swamped in schoolwork recently. As well I’ve also been trying to finalize some long over-due commissions as well as prepping for gallery shows that are coming up (I’ll announce more on those later), but anyway this has all left little room for personal work which is a huge bummer since it’s such a big outlet for me.
Most of this stuff here is classwork or things that I have done in class while the teacher talks or on breaks - I’ll probably try and paint a few of them if I get any extra time just since I have some personal attachment to some. Anyway, just hoping I can free up sometime soon.
Another thing I did tonight just trying to get back into painting. This one is partially based on one of my favorite places in Portland.
